How to measure your personal health?

When you’re ill, tired, depressed or stressed, you know it. But what exactly does it mean to be in good health?

Since health is not based on universal attributes, it’s essential to know yourself. If you want to feel healthy, you need to know what helps you get there! However, there are some pretty basic ways for us humans to measure what it means to be healthy: physically, mentally and socially.

What are the signs that you’re in top form, both mentally and physically?

General signs of good Health

Physical Health

Pretty self-explanatory, isn’t it? Physical health includes elements such as rest, eating nutritious food, regular exercise, stress management and hygiene.

But let’s go a step further.

Not only are rest days extremely important for post-training recovery, but sleep can have an impact on many of your body’s primary functions, such as digestion, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Take those 7 to 9 hours – or whatever suits you best!

It goes without saying that a good diet gives your body the energy it needs on a daily basis. It can also help prevent disease and promote muscle growth. You could consider adopting a more conscious approach to nutrition; increase your self-awareness to choose foods and portions that help you stay healthy.

Emotional/Mental Health

Emotional and mental health can take the form of journaling, meditation, setting boundaries, greater self-compassion, therapy, regular breaks, activities that make you happy and practicing gratitude.

Of course, you don’t need to integrate all these things into your life at once. That would be so overwhelming!

But you can choose the areas in which you most need to improve and go from there. For example, if you want to start meditating, take a look at these guided meditations to get you started:

Social Health

After 2020, we’ve all realized the importance of socializing. Loneliness fatigue is real! Human beings are social creatures, which means keeping track of your social life is a great way to stay healthy.

It means surrounding yourself with loving relationships, reaching out to friends regularly, asking for help when you need it and allowing yourself to rely on the support of others. It’s normal to let go of certain responsibilities when life gets tough! We were never meant to do everything on our own.

Little signs of good Health

Pink nails

Our nails are a valuable indicator of deficiencies and even disease. When we are in good health, our nails are pink, strong and smooth. Their colour and appearance are indicators of our health. If they are striated, you may be suffering from hypothyroidism or anaemia.

If they are very pale, or even white, this is a sign of poor blood circulation and very probably anaemia. If they are yellow, this is due to smoking. If you don’t smoke, a fungal infection or sinusitis may be to blame.

If your nails are brittle and split, it’s a sign of iron, zinc or vitamin B deficiency. To remedy this, simply take a course of these.

White spots on your nails? You lack calcium.

Sleeping well

To be in tip-top shape, it’s advisable to sleep at least 8 hours a night. If this is the case for you, and you sleep like a baby without waking up, it means you’re in excellent health.

You don’t suffer from insomnia, you’ve found your sleep rhythm and you don’t consume any stimulants before going to bed. You’ve also realised that you shouldn’t look at screens an hour before going to bed. Congratulations!

Red Tongue

The colour and appearance of your tongue says a lot about your general state of health.

If your tongue is white and feels swollen, it’s because you drink too much alcohol or eat a diet that’s too spicy. It can also be a sign of oral candidiasis, caused by fungi such as candida albicans.

It generally develops in people who are weak, very often following antibiotic treatment. If your tongue is speckled with white, you have candidiasis, i.e. a mycosis. Avoid acidic foods.

A healthy appetite

Of course, it’s not good to eat too much fat, too much sugar or too much salt. But if you have a good appetite, if you eat everything in reasonable quantities, that means you’re in good health.

You don’t pick and choose your food, you don’t stop yourself from indulging once in a while – in short, you don’t have any food worries.

Don’t listen to your dieting friends who suffer from deficiencies and are always in a bad mood. You’re in excellent health!

Flatulence

Don’t laugh, it’s true! A healthy person expels an average of fifteen farts a day. So, even if it’s embarrassing and disgusting when you’re with other people, don’t stop eating foods that give you gas.

After all, broccoli, cabbage and beans are excellent for our health. Packed with vitamins and iron, they produce good bacteria in the intestine.

In other words, when you fart, your intestine lets you know you’re in good health. So cheer up!

Sweating easily

Do you sweat so much that it bothers you? Do you try one anti-perspirant after another? And let’s not forget when you’re in the middle of a sports session…

Don’t blush! Sweating is a sign of good health. It’s a natural process, the body sweats to evacuate heat and regulate its temperature.

Good lubrication

Cyprine is the vagina’s natural lubricant. If you wet yourself a lot, not only is it a sign that you are longing for your partner, but it also means that you are in good health.

The opposite would be rather worrying. Vaginal dryness is unpleasant, sexual intercourse painful, the need for lubricant annoying… So know that if you wet a lot, it’s a good sign!

Regular periods

While having a heavy period can be restrictive, it is nevertheless a sign of good health. You eat enough and give your body all the nutrients it needs to function properly.

Regular menstruation is also an indicator of good health. When you have a regular cycle, you can look forward to being in perfect health.

Conversely, amenorrhoea (absence of periods) can indicate adrenal or thyroid insufficiency, ovarian dystrophy… In short, diseases that need to be taken seriously.

Hair don’t fall

Losing a few hairs every day is completely normal; it’s part of the hair’s natural cycle. So don’t worry, if you lose a few hairs but very few, it’s a sign that you’re in good health!

Likewise, if your hair is shiny, thick and soft. This shows that you are eating a balanced diet and have no deficiencies.

Beautiful skin

Our skin reflects our state of mind and our general health. Just by looking at a person’s skin, you can learn a lot about their lifestyle and personality.

Skin that is free of redness and dryness, supple and not tight, is a sign of good health. You eat properly and sufficiently, you’re not stressed, you’re in good spirits… In short, you’re in great shape!
